When 10 year old Bryce Bates rode his bicycle to the mailbox for his mom, he wasn't expecting to be chased home and attacked by a police K9.

The Gainesville Police K9 unit thought it was responding to a burglary when it saw Bryce.  It wasn't until the dog had chased and bitten the boy that GPD determined that Bryce was an innocent bystander in his own neighborhood.

After an investigation and lawsuit by Robert Rush, the City of Gainesville decided to offer $85,000 to Bates.  On the advice of Mr. Rush, they declined the City's previous offer of $50,000.
